Religion & Community Service

The Religion Department, as one of the four pillars of Episcopal High School, is committed to the success of the school’s mission, to offer each student “an opportunity to reach his or her maximum spiritual, intellectual, social and ethical potential.”  The Religion Pillar, in its four areas of activity, supports the development of all four of these potentials.  Spiritual growth through the experience of worship and reflection is the goal of Chapel.  Academic classes strengthen both the intellect and the spirit, while social and ethical potential is fostered through community service and Senior Outreach activities.  Class retreats address the spiritual, social, and ethical dimensions of community life. Taken as a whole, the purpose of these programs is to develop students of moral character as seen in thoughts, feelings, and actions.

Episcopal High School uses the semester grading system, whereby each student receives a grade at nine weeks and another at eighteen weeks, the end of the semester. For yearlong courses, the end-of-the-year grade, a reflection of the two semesters, is the only grade recorded on the transcript. Effort grades of S (Satisfactory) or U (Unsatisfactory) will be given for each nine-week grading period.
