"What a great weekend at Katy Taylor TFA TOC NIETOC tournament!" exclaims Speech and Debate Team Head Coach Avis Yen. On Thursday and Friday (11/9 and 11/10) our novices observed varsity rounds to learn more about their topic and get a better understanding of Public Forum Debate.
On Saturday (11/11) it was a whirlwind of success! Brooks Parker '27 competed for the first time in Novice Extemp, met his goals of citing sources, organizing his speech, hitting four minutes, and placed fourth in the room missing finals by one rank.
Emily McKay '24 placed third in Program of Oral Interpretation giving her enough State points to have qualified twice.
Nicole Blanco '26 won Humorous Interpretation earning her first state points for the season and a bid to the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions.
And Will Palmer '24 dominated placing third in Domestic Extemp - qualifying for the state tournament in March and placing second in Impromptu Speaking!
