On Tuesday, May 6  in the Underwood Theatre, the Advanced Creative Writing students unveiled the 2025 edition of Light & Shadow literary magazine, titled Elsewhere, in a stunning Chapel presentation during which stories stepped off the page and into the spotlight, brought to life through voice, presence, and performance.

Selected by the Light & Shadow editorial team, student poets took the stage to share their original poems, each a unique window into their imaginative worlds—Sophia Cormier ‘25, Isabelle DeGrange ‘26, Evelynne Murphy ’26, Julia Levan ‘27, and Lily Parsapour ‘28. They were joined by English faculty member, Mr. Michael Codrington, in a moving performance that deepened the emotional resonance of the event.

Filled with joy, laughter, and moments of reflection, the launch day presentation concluded with heartfelt congratulations from Ms. Jordan Harris, Light & Shadow Advisor, who celebrated both the success of the event and the remarkable achievements of the publication—the 2024 edition of Light & Shadow, Time Moves Fast,  was recently awarded Superior Distinction in the REALM Awards by the National Council of Teachers of English, one of the highest national recognitions for student literary publications.

With boldness, brilliance, and deep care, the Advanced Creative Writing students, along with the contributing student writers and artists, continue to carry that torch forward—illuminating shadows and exploring the light.

That night, students of Advanced Creative Writing and the National English Honor Society gathered with family, friends, and faculty for an evening of original storytelling, poetry, and reflection at the annual Creative Writing Showcase.

In an intimate and inspiring ceremony, students shared their creative work and celebrated their growth as writers. Ms. Jordan Harris along with Mr. Michael Codrington, Advisor for the National English Honor Society, honored each student’s creative contributions to the English Department, concluding the ceremony with a heartfelt Senior Send-Off, recognizing the legacy of graduating writers as they turn the page to their next chapter.
