Coordinated by math teacher Joanna Papakonstantinou, over 100 EHS students and many of their parents attended the Rice University 2024 Huff OEDK Engineering Design Showcase at the ION last month. The evening included poster presentations from over 70 teams from various disciplines who described their projects and answered questions regarding the use of mathematics and science in engineering. The event provided the opportunity for students to learn more about STEM, in particular, applied mathematics and industry-sponsored engineering projects.
Freshman Kariana Carlson summed up the evening: “I believe this showcase was a great way for high school students to learn more about engineering as a potential college major.” Sophomore Henry Harkins added: “The Rice engineering event at the ION provided insight on the many journeys and hardships of engineering.”
