Junior John Dameris is one of a select number of student participants throughout the United States to win a National Gold Award in the 2021 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Dameris won the award for his cardboard sculpture, Dark Strength. While thousands of students in public and private schools earn regional Scholastic Awards, less than 1% of participating students win a national award. Since 2010, EHS has had only 13 national winners.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards were established in 1923 to support creativity in schools. National winners are eligible to apply for scholarships that range up to $10,000.

Dameris' teacher, Studio Art Program Coordinator Lauren Cunningham, adds, "This is a very prestigious award, and I am thrilled for John to receive national recognition for his work in sculpture." Congratulations, John Dameris!
