A group of ten adventurous, enthusiastic and energetic students from EHS spent two weeks in June in Cádiz, Spain, participating in the Spain Immersion and Study Abroad program. The program was led by the World Languages Department in partnership with Centro Mundo Lengua (CML) in Spain.
Students lived with host families throughout their stay in Cadiz, a medium-sized port city in southern Spain. Some of the highlights included attending 3 ½ hours of Spanish class per day, eating three meals a day with their host families, taking dance lessons, making paella from scratch, and participating in daily cultural activities around the city organized by CML. The group also visited the nearby city of Granada and the world-famous Moorish palace of The Alhambra. In addition, students walked to school each day and learned to take public transit to and from locations around Cadiz.
Besides learning to live with and be good houseguests to Spanish families, our students were able to explore Cadiz independently, building their knowledge, confidence, and sense of independence. Additionally, they were supportive of one another, contributing their insights during class and excursions, trying new foods and activities, and remaining upbeat throughout the trip!
We are very proud of each one of the students and looking forward to hearing more when school starts in August.
