Girls and Boys Soccer Earn Top-25 Rankings; Jackson Wins Munoz Award

In a historic feat for any high school, the EHS varsity girls and boys soccer teams have each earned top-25 rankings in the inaugural Top Drawer Soccer national poll. The varsity girls team currently ranks #16 with wins over St. John's, Kinkaid, and John Cooper. The varsity boys team comes in a #17 after playing perennial contender San Antonio Central Catholic to a 1-1 draw in mid-December. This national attention is a first for the girls program as first-year head coach Rachel Stelter has the talented Knights playing at a very high level. The boys team gained national attention during the 2018-19 season when the Knights cruised to their fourth consecutive SPC title and finished the season ranked #1.

In other EHS athletic news, senior Donovan Jackson was named the Anthony Munoz High School Lineman of the Year. The following is a press release from the announcement from NBC Sports:

The All-American Bowl Selection Committee announced the winner for the Anthony Muñoz Lineman of the Year, presented to the top high school lineman in the class of 2021. Offensive Lineman Donovan Jackson (Bellaire, TX/ Episcopal H.S.) has been named the recipient of the Anthony Muñoz Lineman of the Year award.

According to 247Sports Jackson is the No. 1 overall prospect in Texas and the top offensive lineman in the nation, He will be playing college football at Ohio State University. Jackson has also been named a finalist for the All-American Bowl's GEICO Man of the Year award which will be announced this Saturday on NBC.

Past winners of the award include Solomon Thomas, Derrick Brown, and Paris Johnson Jr.

Muñoz is regarded by many as the top offensive lineman in professional football history and is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame after playing 13 seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. He was named to the National Football League's 75th Anniversary Team and to the NFL's 1980's All-Decade Team. -
