The EHS girls cross country team ran a race for the ages at the SPC Championships in Dallas Saturday morning and brought home the first conference championship in program history. The Knights finished 10 points better than runner-up Hockaday, placing four runners in the top-20 and six in the top-30. Madison Morgan (3rd), Julia Newman (7th), Lucy Holden (8th), Ellen Newman (14th), Asher Luengas (22nd), and Kate Freeman (27th) led the way for the Knights.
Fueled by a 10th place finish by Sam Marino, the boys team placed 7th overall in their championship race. Senior John Bruton finished 25th in his final race for the Knights.
Saturday's cross country championship capped an exciting weekend in Dallas as the field hockey and volleyball teams earned thrilling wins in Saturday's competitions. The field hockey team rebounded from a disappointing 1-0 loss to FWCD in the opening round and defeated both St. Andrews and Duchesne by identical 7-0 scores. The girls volleyball team swept FWCD in Thursday's opening round but lost to eventual runner-up Oakridge in the quarterfinals. The Knights responded with a commanding 3-1 win over host ESD in the 5th place game. The boys volleyball team drew perennial contender Casady in the quarterfinals and lost a tough 3-1 match to the Cyclones. The Knights rallied in the 5th place game Saturday morning and easily defeated St. John's 3-1.
