Orientation for new Knights took place as planned for August 17, but with a twist: the event was re-imagined as a virtual event. Starting at 9:00 a.m., the 2020-2021 freshman class and transfer students logged on and leaned in. All students met face-to-face with their advisors and learned more about their classmates through a few icebreakers and team-building activities. The students moved through four rotations: Knights of Character, Knight Community, Knights Around Campus, and Knights of Scholarship, which provided tips and information to help new Knights begin the year strong.
Eric Lerch, 9th Grade Dean, says, "The Virtual New Knight Orientation was an opportunity for our new students to be welcomed into the EHS community. The experience gave incoming students a chance to spend quality time with their advisory group while they received tips for achieving success in the remote learning environment. We also discussed core values of our community such as integrity and inclusiveness. A highlight of the day was an entertaining video on keys to academic success produced by 12th Grade Deans Jessica Adams and Julius Michael."
At the end of the day, the students shared why they're excited to be a Knight. For Charles Phillips '24, the strong Athletics programs attracted him to EHS, while Sarah Margaret Hill '24 cites the variety of opportunities to grow and learn. Incoming freshman Maria Morales says, "I'm excited to be a knight because of the positive environment." And William Palmer '24 adds, "I will be able to make new friends and develop a plan for the future. I will be able to delve into the arts and explore my passion!"
Welcome new Knights! Let's go!
