EHS senior Jack Podsednik capped a terrific weekend of wrestling by capturing the Texas State Prep Championship at the 195 pound weight class. Juniors Lane McCool (113) and James Ogunrin (220) earned second place at the event as all three wrestlers now qualify for the Prep National Championships at Lehigh University later this month.
In other athletic action, both the varsity boys basketball and boys soccer teams earned impressive wins over rivals Kinkaid and St. John's last week. Both teams remain undefeated in SPC play and host Houston Christian Friday night. The varsity girls soccer team earned a thrilling 4-0 win over Kinkaid Tuesday night before dropping a 1-0 decision to St. John's on Friday. Both the varsity girls soccer and basketball team complete regular season SPC play this Friday v Houston Christian.
In swimming action, freshman Sam Randall broke the school record in the 500 Free with a time of 5:09.81 at the SPC south zone meet in Alief. The boys 200 Medley Relay broke the school record for the second time this season as Jake Klucsnik, Joseph Neilsen, Sam Randall, and Ethan Knight finished the event with a time of 1:46.03. Freshman diver Sela Sanders also placed fourth in the diving competition.
