On Tuesday, October 22nd, Katie Koestner, national expert on healthy relationships and campus student safety, will speak to the EHS community.
In 1990, Ms. Koestner appeared on the cover of TIME Magazine as the first woman to speak out publicly as a victim of date rape. She has shared her personal story with over 5 million students. She addresses sexual assault, respect, consent, healthy decision-making, and the impact of alcohol, while inspiring students to become active bystanders in their communities. Presented by Community and Inclusion, including the Consent, Advocacy, and Refusal Skills Education Initiative (CARE), and Choices program, Ms. Koestner will address the students, faculty, and staff during Chapel and Advisory. Afterward, she will conduct a Lunch-and-Learn with parents at noon in the Alumni Room on the third floor of the Hildebrand Athletic Center.
In preparation for Koestner's visit, on Wednesday, October 9, the school will view a special presentation by Masque of their original play "The Pick-up," in conjunction with Choices and CARE. The 20-minute play deals with issues of healthy relationships and consent as it pertains to bodily autonomy. The 9th graders will work with the CARE facilitators and their advisors to debrief "The Pick-up" and learn more about issues of consent. The 10th, 11th, and 12th grade advisories, the faculty members, and the staff, will all take time to complete a survey about our campus. Please reach out to Ms. Rachel Lopez at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
