Fall Dance Concert

The Episcopal High School Dance Department presents their fall dance concert DancEscapes featuring an exciting array of choreography from some cutting-edge artists on November 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Underwood Theatre.

The group of guest choreographers includes Houston Ballet’s Principal Dancer Melody Mennite, who brings a wealth of stage experience to work with Impact Dance; Revolve Dance Company’s Amy Cain/Dawn Dippel will be working to set a new work on the Repertory Ensemble; dancer Miguel Perez, who has done television and stage work with Celine Dion, Shania Twain, and worked with Hubbard Street II, as well as Bodytraffic, will lend his talents; and lastly, our special friend Mario Zambrano/Hubbard Street Dance, Ballet Frankfurt, Nederlands Dans Theatre, Batsheva, who has had a career most dancers dream of and is now an author ( his recent novel is Loteria) will set a new work for EHS.

To round out the program, EHS’s own Kristina Burgess and Frank Vega will each create two new works for the dance department with a sampling of music by Ella/Frank and Ani DiFranco.

EHS student choreographers will present original works for our annual spring dance concert on April 17 and 18. This springtime event is always a crowd-pleaser, and more than 65 dancers will participate. Thirteen pieces of choreography will be presented, encompassing a variety of music and genres.

Out of the 12 student-choreographers, seven are veterans, and the rest are all making their debut. This blend of both experienced and novice choreographers creates an exciting and eclectic mix of music and dance.

Students may purchase advance tickets during both lunches on April 15-17. The EHS Dads Club will sponsor an opening night ice cream social from 6:30 p.m.-7:15 p.m., prior to the performance in the Underwood Theatre, April 17, in Glassell Hall.

Episcopal High School Dance Department presents their fall dance concert Moving Experience which showcases an exciting array of choreography from some cutting edge artists. Please save the date, November 14-15, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. in the Underwood Theatre.

The group of guest choreographers includes Broadway/Television/Screen actor-dancer Cody Green, who brings a wealth of stage experience to the to work with Impact Dance and a select group of other dancers. He will teach a master class 4-5:30 p.m. on Friday, September 12, in the Dance Studio/Convent Building to include the dance department. Houston MET Dance Company dancer/choreographer Kiki Lucas will create a brand new work, as will NYU Master's Grad, Michelle Culhane. Ad Deum Dance Company’s Artistic Director, Randall Flinn, will choreograph a very spiritual piece, “Panis Angelicus” to add to the diverse evening.

To round out the program, EHS’s own Kristina Burgess and Frank Vega will each create two new works for the performance, including music from Sting and Nina Simone.

The above listed choreographers are students of EHS who will present original works for the spring dance concert. It will involve almost 70 EHS students. It is always a well-received performance, by peers and parents alike. There will be 12 pieces of choreography presented, to a varied list of music and genres.

Out of these 15 dancers, we have 4 returning choreographers and the rest are all newbies to the process. It looks to be an interesting mix of music and dancers for this spring concert.

Tickets will be available at the door on the night of the performances. And for students, tickets will be available both lunches starting on April 8, 2014.

EHS Dads Club will be offering a free ice cream social prior to the performance at 6:30 p.m. in the Glassell Hall.

Fall Dance Concert

On November 15-16, 2013, at the Underwood Theatre, Episcopal High School’s Dance Department presents Dance-Live, the annual fall dance concert. This year’s production, showcasing nine original works, marks a coming-together of choreography from different regions of the U.S.

Michelle Manzanales, from NYC’s Ballet Hispanico, creates an original modern work featuring flowing skirts that sweep the stage. Randy Duncan, from the Chicago Academy of the Arts and Joseph Holmes Dance Company, presents “Journey,” a moving original piece of choreography/music that spotlights EHS dancers with various levels of expertise.

Oliver Halkowich, from Houston Ballet, collaborates with our Impact Dancers to express his choreographic voice in a narrated work set to music by director Baz Luhrmann. One of the department’s visiting choreographers, jhon Stronks, from the Houston Metropolitan Dance Company, choreographs an original work to Clare de Lune, adding a classical element to the night’s selections.

Faculty choreographers Kristina Burgess and Frank Vega contribute pieces with music from the Beatles, Herb Alpert, West Side Story, and the pop’s Mad World, among others. The Live part of Dance-Live incorporates the EHS Music Department’s Student Orchestra, under the direction of Russell Vogt/Music Program Coordinator. This is EHS’s first venture in live music/dance collaboration, and the result promises to be exciting and rewarding for our EHS dancers and audiences.

Crossing Bridges

Student-choreographed spring dance concert
April 19-20, 2013

This spring, the EHS Dance Department presents the student-choreographed dance concert, an annual event that spotlights the work of EHS student-choreographers. The performance features 12 works from 11 student-choreographers that span a wide range of dance styles. This annual student-choreographed dance concert continues to be a highlight of the spring semester at EHS. The concert gives the students of the dance department the chance to have a voice --whether they are experienced or not – and the opportunity to present their own vision of what choreography is and what it can do to move an audience.

Previous student choreographers include seniors Mimi Shou, and Corinne Collard. Newbies to the choreography process are: Alice Allan, Victoria Bond, Anna Louise Buckley, Natalie Flores, Amanda Garza, Mia Gerachis, Colleen Phillips, Mary Kerr Winters, and Hailey Williams. Crossing Bridges promises to be an event that everyone will want to attend.

The Dads Club will provide FREE hot dogs and hamburgers on opening night, April 19, at 6:30 p.m., in the USC courtyard – come early!

Tickets will be available on starting Tuesday, April16-19, at lunch and at the door on night of performance.

Fall Dance Concert
Nov. 30 & Dec. 1, 2012

EHS’s fall dance concert will present new works by Aaron F. Girlinghouse, Pattie Obey, Susan Q. Williams, along with faculty alumna, Evelyn Ireton.

To round out the program with new works, dance faculty members Kristina Burgess (new to EHS) and Frank Vega will lend their talents to create a "Moving" program of dance "Spaces" on the Underwood stage. More than 35 EHS dancers will perform in eight works to be presented Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. in the Underwood Theatre on the campus of Episcopal High School.

Tickets will be available for purchase Nov. 27 on campus during both lunches and at the box office in Glassell Hall the night of the performances.
