Parents Association
A Letter from the president
2023-24 Parents Association President -
Caren McKinnie
Dear EHS Parents,
I am very excited to welcome you to the 40th year of Episcopal High School! That is right, EHS opened its doors in the fall of 1983 and has been supporting, encouraging, and engaging students across the Four Pillars ever since. I am so thankful to those founding families for laying the framework for this School that has enriched the lives of my family and so many of my friends, as well as their children. That is right, we are well and truly into the timeframe where former students are now current parents. While I am not a Houstonian by birth, many of my friends are, and more than a few of them were shaped by this community and I believe that is part of what drew me to them. EHS, then and now, is providing students the opportunity to follow their passions and expand their horizons in a safe and nurturing environment, allowing them to take risks and grow into the amazing people God has created each of them to be. How can you not be drawn to that?!?
While the Parents Association did not become “plaque on the wall” official until 1984, I know that those first families were behind the scenes and filling the halls with the seeds of the traditions that we all hold dear. The PA mission is simple: to enhance the EHS community by supporting all aspects of the School and its programs. Accomplishing this Mission takes participation by all of us in ways big and small. There is truly something for everyone: Monthly commitments, seasonal involvement, one-day projects, special events, and more. There is a genuine opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the community that can fit into almost any schedule. Most importantly, the Parent’s Association is open to all parents and it is FUN to volunteer and meet everyone.
So now it is our time! I want to encourage all families to get involved in 2023, whether this is your first year at EHS, your tenth year, or even your first time back as an “adult.” Look at the Online Parent Packet and find something that speaks to you. Come to the Volunteer Rally on August 15th to meet other parents and sign up for a committee or activity that sounds fun (hint - they all are). You do not have to stop there, tell us how you want to be involved. Is there a new committee that you would like to start, or a new aspect of the School you would like to support – let’s hear it. We are all charged with continuing the legacy that those founding families started 40 years ago. Have a wonderful summer and I can’t wait to meet you all on August 15th to kick off an amazing 2023-2024. Go Knights!!
