On Saturday April 13, EHS travelled to Cy-Fair High School for a 27-team quiz bowl tournament conducted by Texas Challengers Quiz Tournaments.

The EHS Team of Marcos Clark '26, Evan Ringwald '24, and Sarah Yates '24 won the Varsity Championship in dramatic style. After going 5-2 in the morning rounds, EHS was seeded 4th going into the knockout rounds. First, EHS defeated host Cy-Fair in the quarter finals. Then the team faced Harmony Advancement in the semi-finals. Trailing by 40 points on the last question, EHS made the seemingly impossible 45-point play (answering the toss-up after only a few words and answering all three bonus questions) to earn the win. Coach Scotty Johnson said, “I have coached Quiz Bowl for 40+ years, and I have never seen that happen--until today. EHS stormed by Plano Fusion in the finals and brought home the gold. It was extraordinary!”

The JV team also picked up five big wins giving EHS 13 wins on the day (a new EHS one-day record). The team also surpassed the EHS single season win total (set a year ago) with two tournaments still to go.

On May 3, EHS hosts a tournament involving schools from Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana.

On May 17, EHS competes (virtually) in the championship finals of the National Academic Challenge.
