College Counseling Turns Focus to Juniors Parents and Guardians of the Class of 2022—It's that time to get ready for the Junior Conference. Please be sure you have completed the Junior Parent Brag Sheet to begin the process of scheduling the official junior conference. We are hopeful to begin conferences in mid-to-late January. Juniors - We enjoyed our time with the juniors last Tuesday and Wednesday during Interim Term when we had the opportunity to share important information with them about the college search and application process. You might be wondering what was discussed. Juniors rotated through six different presentations. For more details on each presentation, please visit our "Juniors" tab in Counseling Connections. Juniors – It's time to get registered for the official February ACT. The deadline is this Friday, January 15. Sophomores and Juniors - Now that the PSAT results are available, you will most likely see an increase of mail both at home and in your inbox. Here's some advice: Junk Mail 101: Put all that college propaganda to good use—You'll be bombarded by emails and mail from colleges and universities, and the way you sort through all of the communications can set the tone for the rest of your college search. Don't dismiss an institution based on its ranking or its unfamiliarity to you. Many students find "their" college through an unsolicited communication. Before signing up to be on mailing lists, create a new email account or a folder within your email for all communication to and from schools. Seniors— Need help reading your financial aid awards? Please check out "The Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) Explained" video. For detailed information, please visit our "Paying for College" tab in Counseling Connections. Information on many topics can always be found on our Counseling Connections page.
CARES Act Extends into 2021 The CARES Act has been extended into 2021. The CARES Act lifted the cap on annual contributions for those who itemize, increasing it from 60% to 100% of AGI for 2020 and has now extended this cap lift for 2021. Any excess contributions available can be carried over to the next five years. Further, the CARES Act allows Americans who support charitable organizations an above-the-line deduction of $300 for cash contributions for single filers and has added a $600 deduction for married couples filing jointly. This is available to taxpayers who take the standard deduction. Your continued support of Episcopal High School is greatly appreciated.
