Season of Lent Resonates with Students The season of Lent is the 40-day period leading up to the great celebration of Easter. It's a season marked by penitence, self-examination, and prayerful preparation. Often, people choose to observe Lent by giving things up, or fasting. Many choose to observe Lent by adopting new or renewed disciplines like prayer and the study of scripture. Lent began this year on Wednesday, February 17. On Ash Wednesday, we are made mindful of the many ways we fall short of being the people God has called us to be, individually and corporately. We consider our great need for God's forgiveness and mercy, and with the marking of ashes on our foreheads (the "imposition of ashes"), we are reminded that we are dust, and to dust we shall return. From Ash Wednesday, the season of Lent continues its 40-day journey to Easter. Our Chapel services will continue the Lenten themes, and daily emails will offer Lenten meditations written by students and staff. Around campus, there will be signage with Lenten messages, reminders, and food for thought. Meditation stations with Lenten activities will be set up in the Chapel for those who are interested, to come by, during free moments of the day. We offer a course of baptismal preparation for those seeking Baptism. Lent is a sober and serious time, but it is also hopeful. There is something about the season that often resonates deeply with our students. If you would like more information about Lent, please contact one of our chaplains: the Rev. Beth Holden or the Rev. Art Callaham. May your journey through Lent be meaningful! Prayers and Support - We hope that most of our families experienced the past week of ice and power outages with little permanent damage. For those families or faculty/staff members who would appreciate prayers and support, we encourage you to submit requests here.
