From the Desk of Head of School Ned Smith
Dear EHS Family,
With Independence Day behind us and summer well underway, we hope you have enjoyed some time with family and friends and have begun to refresh and recharge in preparation for the new school year, scheduled to start for our fall performing arts programs and athletic teams on Monday, August 2. Today's letter includes a link to our Reopening FAQ, which comprehends all that has already been addressed in this summer's three prior letters. New information will be published in this and the final two summer letters, and the FAQ will be updated accordingly. In our next summer letter, scheduled for Friday, July 23, Athletic Director Jason Grove and Dean of Arts and Innovation Jay Berckley will outline our plans for preseason arts and athletics.
As we continue to plan for the start of the new school year, we remain mindful of our mission and culture and the importance of a strong start in reestablishing both after 18 months of COVID compromise and uncertainty, getting back to life as we knew it pre-COVID. To help in this effort, we encourage all who can get vaccinated to do so. You may sign up for a vaccine through Houston Methodist. We anticipate that students who have been vaccinated will not have to quarantine if they are exposed to COVID-19.
Our top priority at present is to insure the most normal opening of school we can safely accomplish to allow us to reunite and renew. We must come together once again in all the ways that make us the EHS family. Most importantly, we plan to renew and re-affirm the centrality of our Episcopal identity, our faith, and our mission, especially considering the challenges of the last 18 months. This renewal will be our focus at every level of the organization as we begin the new school year, from the board of trustees, to the school administration, to our faculty and staff, and, most importantly, to our students. What makes EHS so special is the school's mission, its lived Episcopal identity, and its strong sense of community, each of which is an expression of our faith in God and in each other.
Have a wonderful July, and we look forward to welcoming you back, refreshed and reenergized in August.
Go Knights,
Head of School
