Dear EHS Parents,
This weekend, D.I.A. (Diversity in Action) hosted its annual Mix and Mingle. After a year of hiatus because of COVID-19 related restrictions with in-person gatherings, more than 150 students, parents, faculty/staff, and Board members congregated in the USC for the event. Reverend Holden started the afternoon with a prayer, followed by Director of Diversity, Community, and Inclusion, Wayne Jones' welcome. Mr. Jones shared the vision for D.I.A. "D.I.A. is an organization for all EHS students to come together, be involved and be their authentic selves." D.I.A. faculty/staff sponsor Ayesha Spooner followed and spoke passionately about relationships and the EHS mission. "D.I.A. is a place where we get to understand ourselves and each other in really meaningful ways." D.I.A. students, Chandler Hollis, Quinn Charlton, and Karma Elbadawy reflected on their time in D.I.A. and how the group supports the School's mission.
At the conclusion of the event, one parent shared, "This is one of the best gatherings I have attended in my three years at the School. I have had interactions and conversations with people today that I see, but haven't had the ability to communicate with." Thank you to all who came and for the support shown.

![]() Parenting in Faith Program: October 6
We invite parents to join the chaplains in the Benitez Chapel at 7:30 a.m. for a short Eucharist, coffee & donuts, and the Parenting in Faith discussion from 8:00-8:30 a.m. on October 6. This year, the chaplains will present themes from Presiding Bishop Michael Curry's Way of Love as a starting point for discussions about parents' spirituality. The October 6 topic will focus on the practice of "TURNING," which involves pausing, listening, and turning toward the way of truth, love, hope, justice, and freedom.
Students are welcome to join us for the Eucharist and donuts before heading to their first-period classes. Parents may come and go during the meetings as needed and are welcome to join the group at any time of the year. Parenting in Faith meetings are not recorded.
![]() Confirmation and Baptism Courses Offered
EHS offers catechism programs for students, faculty, and staff who want to be baptized or confirmed in the Episcopal Church. The Baptism program will take place during the season of Lent, beginning in early March -- you will read more about it closer to that time. The Confirmation program will begin in October.
The Book of Common Prayer tells us that "Confirmation is the rite in which we express a mature commitment to Christ and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop" (p. 860). Since many people are baptized as infants or young children, confirmation is the opportunity for a person to affirm their faith as a mature individual before God and to the bishop, who represents Christ and his Church, particularly in this Episcopal Diocese of Texas.
Our Confirmation program will include after-school classes with the chaplains, participating in volunteer work, and seeking out and establishing a Church home. If you or your child is interested in enrolling in the program or would like to learn more, please contact the Rev. Beth Holden (bholden@ehshouston.org) by Friday, October 8.
