History Department
The History and Social Sciences Department strives to familiarize students with the critical skills of analysis, interpretation, and synthesis, and to examine current and historical events through a variety of lenses. Our diverse selection of required courses provide students with a background in western and non-western cultures, and address such issues as ethnicity, gender, race and religion. In addition to traditional history classes, a dynamic offering of electives allows students to pursue a foundation in the social sciences as well, including government, economics, and psychology. All classes focus on providing students with the skills necessary to conduct comprehensive research, write papers in a logical and cogent manner, analyze primary sources, and ask intuitive questions. Group work, discussions, and frequent use of technological resources are used to complement traditional lecture-style classes.
