Director of Human Resources - ARCHIVE

The Director of Human Resources will oversee the school’s HR functions including but not limited to the maintenance of personnel records, legal compliance, compensation, benefits administration, staffing strategies, personnel issues, and the following specific responsibilities:

Benefit Administration:

  • Manage and coordinate benefit programs - Health, Dental, FSA, 403(b) Retirement Plan, STD, LTD, Life/AD&D, and COBRA - for faculty and staff, including all faculty and staff communication, problem- solving and claims resolution.
  • Ensure compliance of all plans with all federal, state, and local applicable laws and statutes, i.e. HIPPA, ERISA, IRS guidelines.
  • Manage annual open enrollment for Health, Dental, and FSA Plans.
  • Ensure Summary Plan Descriptions are in legal compliance.
  • Manage Worker’s Compensation and Texas Workforce Commission programs.

Faculty and Staff Relations:

  • Complete periodic job description audits and ensure appropriate classifications under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
  • Manage faculty and staff recruitment, including faculty and staff page on the website, placement of opportunities in appropriate venues; and the receipt, acknowledgement and dissemination of all candidate materials; management of the search process and maintenance of search documentation to ensure EEOC compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local statutes/laws such as FMLA, ADA, Sexual Harassment, Worker’s Compensation, Title VII, and ERISA.
  • Execute issuance of employment contracts and compensation statements.
  • Oversee the contract/paperwork portion of the hiring process for the Athletic Department (seasonal coaches) and Summer Programs (faculty/students) to ensure compliance with school/DOL requirements.
  • Manage faculty and staff separation process for both voluntary/involuntary terminations.
  • Oversee new faculty and staff orientation and documentation process, including background checks.
  • Consult administrators and faculty and staff regarding faculty and staff disciplinary problems, resolving personnel issues, and providing mediation when necessary.
  • Conduct internal investigations relating to faculty and staff complaints.
  • Provide training on various HR topics including interviewing skills, faculty and staff coaching, and performance reviews.
  • Supervise training of faculty and staff on child abuse prevention.
  • Oversee payroll processing.
  • Serve on Retirement Plan Fiduciary Committee, and other committees as requested.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to maintain all faculty and staff information with absolute confidentiality.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong customer service/communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines.
  • Ability to respond and follow through on all assignments/responsibilities in a timely manner; use time efficiently.
  • Attention to detail; demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Comfortable working with/learning new technologies.
  • Self-starter who can work independently to problem-solve.
  • Ability to multitask and be flexible.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in all aspects of the job.
  • Engage in Professional Development to remain current on legal compliance/best practices.
  • College degree with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in HR.
  • Professional in Human Resources certification (PHR) preferred.
  • Proficiency with Excel and Word required.
  • Knowledge of Paycom payroll systems a plus.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Generally works in standard office conditions and climate.
  • Works in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
