Service and Outreach

Preparing for meaningful lives in service to others

Community service puts faith into action, cultivates an understanding of our larger responsibility for a wider community, and promotes our respect for the dignity and worth of every human being. Community service connects us to our neighbor and shapes us into people who can move the mountains that will change the whole world... or change the whole world for at least one person.

The SOS (Students of Service) organization is our primary vehicle for community service opportunities throughout the school year. Students can serve at our partner organizations -- The Women’s Home, The Beacon homeless services, the Gardens of Bellaire assisted living community, or the Nehemiah Center for at-risk children -- or sign up for special events like Challenger Football or a Sleep in Heavenly Peace bed-construction project. Information about all upcoming service events is promoted in Chapel and student emails or can be found on this website.

All Freshmen participate in the Freshman Service Experience, and all seniors engage in the two-week Senior Outreach Program. Between those two bookends, service is voluntary, and there are ample opportunities both to volunteer and to become significantly involved in our student-led service organization (SOS).

You shall love your neighbor as yourself. (Leviticus 19:18)
Show me your faith without works, and I by my works will show you my faith. (James 2:18)
Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all. (Mark 9:35)
I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me. (Matthew 25:35)
Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received. (1 Peter 4:10)
