The Freshman Service Experience

The Freshman Service Experience (FSE) integrates new students into the EHS community service ethos. FSE is launched in September with an on-campus workshop on service, and freshmen are sent home with a brochure describing several upcoming service project dates and locations. Each student selects one of the service opportunities to fulfill the FSE requirement in the fall semester. The class gathers at the end of the semester to reflect on their experiences of service and learn how they can continue to serve through the EHS Students of Service (SOS) organization.

The goals of the FSE are to help freshmen explore what "service to others” means, discover the many needs in our Houston community, learn about SOS and our service partners, and understand why EHS takes service seriously. We mean it when we say we want our students to grow and prepare for meaningful lives in service to others.
